The Satsang in the Chicago region grew dramatically under his constant direction during his trips in 1974, 1977, and 1980. In the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, a little building on a four-acre tract of property was purchased. The structure was refurbished to fit our requirements. Pramukh Swami Maharaj dedicated the first BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Chicagoland in 1984.

Satsang’s expansion throughout the years necessitated the need for new facilities. Our needs were satisfied by the present land in Bartlett. This property on Route 59 was purchased in 1994. Pramukh Swami Maharaj blessed the land for the construction of a Mandir. He oversaw the construction of the cultural complex known as a ‘Haveli’. This Haveli has a big assembly hall as well as facilities for children, youth, and adult Satsang.

Pujya Viveksagar Swami performed the groundbreaking ceremony and laid the foundational stone in 1998. Jim Edgar, the Governor of Illinois at the time, declared that day ‘Pramukh Swami Maharaj Day in Illinois’ and honoured Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
